Why Do I Go To Church?

This is a question in which I am requesting feedback from our readers.  We know the Bible commands Christians to "assemble themselves together" and there are a host of biblical reasons as well as benefits that are received from attending church.  While we can come up with plenty of reasons to attend church, there are an equal amount of reasons why people don't attend church.  The top three excuses I have heard over the last decade are: "It's my only day off;" "we've been busy;" and "we overslept."

Perhaps the greatest excuse any "Christian" has ever given on the reason for their absence is summed up in three words: "Church is boring!"  Either the praise didn't move them, the preaching didn't apply to them, or the parishioners weren't  friendly enough.  May I challenge you as a reader.  Going to church is never about what you can get out of it; it is not about is about giving!  Every verse in Psalm 100 is a great example.  The end result? We don't worship and praise the Lord for what He will do for us, we magnify and worship Him because of WHO HE IS and what He has already done for us.  Therefore, "serve the Lord with gladness...come before His presence with singing...Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise."  Why? "For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."

Understanding, however, that there are personal and practical reasons why people either attend or are absent from the church, is a subject in which we, as pastors, are seeking to be enlightened and informed.  So, please, help us out by responding to this article and help us to understand today's culture of church attendance.  God bless and thank you in advance for participating in this week's conversation!
