 So This Is Christmas
My favorite day of the year is almost here. It takes all my will power to stay seated and not jump around like a little kid. I tell my wife that I am always a kid at heart and Christmas brings it out of me more than anything. One of my favorite things to do is listen to Christmas songs over and over and this year one song seems to be stuck in my head. “So this is Christmas and what have you done, Another year older and a new one just begun. And so this is Christmas, I hope you have fun, the near and the dear ones, the old and the young. A very merry Christmas and a happy new year, let’s hope it’s a good one without any fears”’
Whenever I hear this song it makes me think back over all the years and remember my favorite parts of Christmas. I get very nostalgic and joy just fills my heart thinking about the great memories and times that I had as a child with my parents, but then without fail another memory fills my mind. The year that we told my parents their gift wasn’t good enough. My parents didn’t have a lot of money, in fact, we would be consider poor by most people’s standards. We had food on our plates and a roof over our heads but one year my parents saved up their money and did something crazy.  They went out and bought us an air hockey table. Now that I am older, I still wonder where they got the money from. They had never done anything like this before and it was a grand gesture of love to their four kids. BUT…. We looked at the gift and with our immature minds decided we did not want this, we wanted bikes. So we complained and griped and told them that their gift was not good enough we wanted something else.
How similar we humans are when we think about God’s gift. People look at the gift that God gave us on the first Christmas and we say nope not good enough. We want everyone to go to heaven  except those society deems unworthy. We want all religions to be right and we want it not to matter what we do. We want to have as much “fun” as we like and not worry about the consequences. We look at God and His Gift and spit in His face.
“So this is Christmas, and what have you done?” The words to a Christmas song and yet are so true. When you look back over the years and at this Christmas are you truly thankful for the gift that He gave you? Are you willing to accept His truth? This year, what have you done?
