See any good movies lately? What TV shows are you binge watching now? Doe the cliff hanger have you on the edge of your seat? Are you waiting for the next season to come out and are you talking about it with all your friends? The question though is how do you determine if the show or movie you are watching is ok to watch? As adults we get the privilege to make that choice for ourselves and our children. We get to say this is a good show and this is a bad one, but on what criteria do we base this?
It is so easy to see the rating and think that as long as it is under a certain rating we are good. Then when we hear others watching “bad” movies we think “well I don’t watch that kind of trash, I can’t believe that they do!” But is this the best way to determine what goes into our heads. I say no, not at all. Ratings help but they are based on people that are not saved and do not have the same view as us.
I was watching a movie with some friends one night. Someone brought one and it was rated PG so I thought it should be fine and didn’t think anything about it. When the movie finished I was confused and looked at the case again. Sure enough it said PG but language in the movie had me confused. There was more swear words then in most PG 13 and some R rated movies.
As Christians we are not called to let all things into our head. Philippians 4:8 says “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
What is going through your head? Do the movies and TV shows that you watch meet God’s qualifications? Are they helping your walk or hindering it. I hope you take a few seconds and think and pray about it.
